If i go to one more coffee shop and discuss the same topics one more time i will buy a rope, tie it into a noose and make use of it.
Enlightened bloggers, good people, please tell me where to go and what to do in Cairo, I am up for any enriching or entertaining experience.

Have u been to Makan down town?
It's in this little old building thats set up for a quaint little performance. Zar music.. guy shaking his but with seashells on it.. "the 2aganib love it" bounce and jump around to the music. Also Fagnon is supposed to be funtimes
If I were in Cairo, I wouldn't miss Wagih Aziz's upcoming concert at Wekalet El Ghory on April the 18th at 8:30 pm...
Also, Here's an idea, I get the sense you're handy and artsy...and raw material for do it at home projects is dirt cheap in egypt! go buy some funky tiles, a wide wood frame, some gyps or plaster stuff to stick ur tiles and make a funky picture frame or something.
* go to el azhar park, take a walk just before the sunset
* go to maadi, start from street #9, take a latte and walk around with ur buddies (preferably on a friday before the prayers)
* take a felouka by night
* ride horses on a full moon
* grab a burger at route 66 in maadi
mmm there are hundreds of thnigs to do in cairo other than cafes, innovate :-)
keep em coming guys! :)
Nothing to do in Cairo. Pack up and go back to France.
I second herlock..
Herlock & Will: i am dissappointed at both of you! if i recall correctly you were both around when i was still in France and should that be how you feel about it, your advice would have been helpful then!!!
i intend to surround myself with more supportive people.
There are so many things to do in this big city, only people don't have eyes.
Stay away from the pretentious places! Go to "Sherifen" pedestrian street in Downtown. Some people call it "Borsa" because that's where the stock-market is. It's off Sherif Str.
Go to the European and indie film screenings (you'll find dates and places in Croc. Guide, or just ask me :D)
I'll think of even more things to do, and update you w/ it.
You all seem to for get AL Sawi Cultural Wheel in Zamalek.
Check their web site. Interesting stuff.
Hmm. Into karaoke? There is a little place in Ma3adi that rents out private rooms for groups. Also you might wanna try attending the Barcelona match on the 24th, I've found the stadium to be a great outlet for energy and frustration, and in general great fun. It is a context in which it is perfectly acceptable for you to scream and jump and yell bloody murder (not recommended if you have issues with profanity though). I always enjoy trips to old Cairo (you'd have to be really into architecture, old markets and haggeling though). Go to a concert somewhere, there is always somebody playing somewhere in this city. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.
Pick up an instrument, join a band, and get on with the 'lyrical song writing'...teasing, but really:)
Go to one of those souk el gom3ah type places. Browse for antique Coca Cola signs or a pet (depending on your interests)...
Quite informative, thanks N, this would be very handy for my next visit to cairo :)
Alluring: yes! isn't it fascinating?
Thanks all!
Hmm... As Nousha said, Maadi could be really relaxing. Going through Mostafa Kamel square (or rather round about) early in the morning. I just love it there. Also road 18. Sometimes I just go there for no reason just to be under those trees. Its so amazing. Especially at this time of year.
Wadi Degla is really nice to go for a walk in, but its getting pretty hot these days.
Kotob Khan also have some get-togethers and talk about different topics.
